Cape Fear Programs

Elite Program

Our Elite Program is a "best of the Best". This is basically the National Program on steroids (not literally!) and will only be run if we have a group of highly motivated players (and parents!) that will committ to Playing in at least 2 National Qualifiers and AAU's, along with in-Region play. This program will by invitation and will be very practice intensive. We hope to compete at a very high level, and that takes work, dedication, and support! Cost will be based upon tournaments chosen, but will be greater than the National Program. This season will run until early June (AAU’s).

Coaches will be chosen from those most qualified. Currently that includes Emily Coleman (CFCC Head), Jen Mallard (former UNCW standout and current coach a South Brunswick), and Ron Strickland (current #2 on NC HS's all-time Wins List and coach at Hoggard).

National Program

The National Program is our main "Exposure Program". It showcases the strongest teams at major events where college coaches go to recruit. It is not for beginning players or those who cannot commit to the demands of the schedule, or of what it takes to be the best.

National teams will travel to 2 National Qualifier, 2 mid-size “Out-of-Region” tournaments, and up to 4 Regional tournaments. The National Qualifier will be “Big South” in Atlanta plus another to be chosen from a choice of several, with the Mid-Major being planned for the Monument City Classic in Richmond Va and either Shamrock, Queen City Classic, or the Capital City Classic. All of these tournaments are multi-day festival formats. The National Program will have 2 practices a week, along with an optional training session.

We are currently assigning coaches and teams. No positions are final until teams are finalized.

Program cost in 2012-13 was $1250. Cost for 2013-14 has not been finalized, but will go up with the addition of a National Qualifier and a second multi-day event. Expect between $1600 and $1950, depending upon events chosen.

Coaches will be chosen from those most qualified and committed.

Regional Program

Regional Teams will participate in 5-7 in-Region tournaments, depending on scheduling and location. One of these tournaments is planned to include the Myrtle Beach "Winter Bump" event over Presidents Day weekend. This is a multi-day tournament.

Placement on Regional teams will be based on Try-Outs. CFV does not team build for any particular HS, so "HS teams" will generally not be grouped together. Teams are built based upon ability and positions.

Teams will have two practices per week, up from last year, and the main reason for the price increase. This is a major change in thinking as Regionals have always been a very low key training group. One of the reasons we are in the Hanger is that our Regional teams were not showing the improvement we wanted, and one practice a week is the main culprit. This year we fix it.

Program cost in 2012-13 was $650. That price will increase with the added practice this year.

Developmental Program

Our Developmental Program is for ages 7-12, and generally practices Sunday only in the 1-5 time period. This may be 1-3 or 2:30-4:00, etc. All practices should be at the Hanger.

They will have a series of in-house tournaments with one short away tournament on a Sunday afternoon. This program is instructional, not competitive.

Program cost in 2012-13 was $300 and at this time I do not anticipate an increase. This season runs from early November to mid-March.

2012-13 Dev/Pro Coaches were:
Scott Adams - Director
Kristie Butt
